Nanocellulose recovery from domestic wastewater

چکیده

Wastewater solids could be an attractive source of secondary raw cellulose, mainly originating from toilet paper. Cellulose can recovered through sieving wastewater, return sludge, or excess sludge. In particular, a large fraction cellulose (13–15%) found in the sludge aerobic granular produced by Nereda® wastewater technology. A extraction method was developed during this study, allowing recovery pulp with over 86 wt% purity. The derived fibres excellent for production nanocrystals (rCNC). Several pre-treatment steps needed (CNC) wood are already performed Here, technical feasibility such rCNC is studied. As reference materials, microcrystalline and paper were also used. obtained acid hydrolysis, yields ?30 (pulp basis). wastewater-based material rod-like, high aspect ratio (10–14), crystallinity (62–68%), chemical structure similar to commercial CNC. yield per gram influent 22%, while it less (4%). Bio-nanocomposites alginate investigated. At 50 vol% loading rCNC, there 50% relative increase stiffness (18 GPa) compared matrix (12 GPa). characterization positive impact composite materials confirms suitable quality Ultimately, nanocellulose tangible example that high-end products possible, line circular economy.

Sulfide-iron interactions in domestic wastewater from a gravity sewer.

Interactions between iron and sulfide in domestic wastewater from a gravity sewer were investigated with particular emphasis on redox cycling of iron and iron sulfide formation. The concentration ranges of iron and total sulfide in the experiments were 0.4-5.4mgFeL(-1) and 0-5.1mgSL(-1), respectively. During anaerobic conditions, iron reduction kinetics were investigated and reduction rates amo...

Production of Drinking Water from Domestic Wastewater Using Capillary Nanofiltration

Direct Capillary Nanofiltration (Direct CNF) is a new technique used for surface water and wastewater treatment in one step without pre-treatment. The CNF membrane module combines the favourable cleaning properties of capillary ultrafiltration membranes with the favourable separation properties of nanofiltration membranes in terms of removal of DOC, colour, bacteria, viruses and pesticides. Dir...

Phosphorus Removal from Domestic Wastewater Using Engineered Nano-media

Dissolved, bioavailable phosphorus originating from onsite and municipal wastewater is being recognized as one of the contributors to eutrophication and, more recently, high profile cyanobacteria incidents. This has resulted in very low regulatory limits in some regions, well below 1 mg/L, which are very hard to economically and reliably reach with conventional biological and chemical treatment...

Hazardous solid waste from domestic wastewater treatment plants.

The treatment of liquid wastes in municipal sewage treatment plants creates significant quantities of solid residue for disposal. The potential hazard from these wastes requires that their characteristics be determined accurately to develop environmentally sound management criteria. It is readily recognized that the sludge characteristics vary with the type and degree of industrial activity wit...
